Director

Drew James is the Director of the Metal Casting and Foundry 4.0 Centers at the University of Northern Iowa. Drew earned his Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering degrees from Iowa State University. Drew comes to UNI from John Deere where he worked as a Senior Materials Engineer. Drew has over 17 years of foundry industry experience and is an expert in castings, project management, and aluminum/cast iron/steel metallurgy. Drew is involved in a wide variety of organizations and leadership roles including Cast Iron: Gray, Ductile, & CGI (research committee member), AFS, and Foundry in the Box. As Director of the Metal Casting and Foundry 4.0 Centers, Drew provides leadership and direction, oversees interaction with casting industry clients and technical organizations, designs and leads research studies, and leads engagement with state and federal legislators, government liaisons, and industry leadership.
